Dermaplaning Details

Dermaplaning involves using a sterile medical-grade surgical scalpel to thoroughly exfoliate your skin. During your service, your aesthetician holds your skin taught and uses swift motions to allow the scalpel to scrape your skin.

Dermaplaning is part of your personalized facial service. Depending on your skin needs, your aesthetician may also thoroughly cleanse your skin, perform extractions, and apply a series of solutions to rejuvenate and hydrate your skin.

Dermaplaning is often a top-requested service because it provides instant results and requires no downtime, some clients worry about future hair growth issues. Rest assured, regular dermaplaning facial treatments do not make your facial hair grow back darker or thicker.

The Truth About Hair Growth After Dermaplaning

Your skin has a layer of fine hairs that help regulate your body temperature and enhance your senses, among other functions. When it comes to your face and neck, though, those hairs may be obvious, especially if you have naturally dark hair. This effect can give you the appearance of sideburns or a beard, as well as uneven skin tone issues. Facial hair can also make it harder for you to apply makeup smoothly and evenly.

Dermaplaning temporarily removes the entire layer of facial hair known as vellus hair — dermaplaning does not permanently remove hair. Over time, facial hair grows back after dermaplaning. Over the years, internet myths have led women to believe that dermaplaning makes facial hair grow back thicker and darker than it once was. However, this is not the case.

It’s common to feel a little stubble as your hair starts growing back in after dermaplaning. This doesn’t mean that your hair is thicker or coarser. It has to do with the way each hair was cut straight across. The hair feels different to you, but it’s the exact same texture and color as it was before dermaplaning.

Solutions for Hair Growth Concerns After Dermaplaning

Even though your hair won’t grow back thicker or darker after dermaplaning facial treatments, you may be worried about the minimal amount of stubble you feel. Your aesthetician has a few recommendations to remedy this concern.

First, stay on top of your dermaplaning treatment plan. In general, you should be scheduling a dermaplaning facial about once a month. Second, be vigilant about your exfoliation and skin care regimen between treatments. Some of the bumps and imperfections you may be feeling could be a buildup of dead skin or debris.

Lastly, if you have areas where coarse hair is present, your aesthetician may recommend an alternative type of hair removal, such as laser hair removal. No matter what your needs may be, the team is available to help you enhance your skin’s health and beauty
